Tangled up in Blue: The paintings of Marc Chagall
Floating lovers, fiddle players and flowers. Rooftops and roosters. Angels and animals.
Chagall’s dream-like and whimsical paintings are instantly recognisable. They are characterised by loose brushwork, jewel-like colours and a particular shade of blue, now known as ‘Chagall Blue’.
This talk will consider a selection of his works, including his nostalgic paintings exploringhis Jewish roots in his native Vitebsk (modern day Belarus), his avant-garde scenes painted in Paris, and the vivid and romantic evocations of his dear wife, Bella.
