Gardens of Earthly Delight: The Garden in Art

Gardens have been, and continue to be, a great source of inspiration for artists. Looking at imagery from diverse centuries, we’ll explore how portrayals of gardens have given us insight into our relationship with the natural world and helped us to define what it means to be human.

This talk will explore beautiful, symbolic and sensual paintings, including Hieronymus Bosch’s shocking ‘Garden of Earthly Delights’, Fragonard’s erotic ‘Swing’ and John Singer Sargent’s enchanting ‘Carnation, Lily, Lily Rose’.
